Sixty one percent of low-income families do not have books available for their children to look at or read, but Westend Dental needs your help in changing this statistic for many kids in the Chicagoland area. From August 5th through August 30th, Westend Dental will be hosting a Back-to-School Children’s Book Drive benefiting Bernie’s Book Bank, a nonprofit dedicated to connecting at-risk infants, toddlers and school-age children with needed books.
“Unlike other organizations, Bernie’s Book Bank collects, processes and distributes children’s books effectively and efficiently with a goal to serve all at-risk children across Chicagoland. In order to focus on prevention, we have created a sustainable program where we commit to coming back twice a year with six age-appropriate children’s books and serve children on a continuum from birth through 6th grade,” says Jessie Urban, Director of Operations & Logistics of Bernie’s Book Bank and Westend Dental patient.
Since its inception in 2009, Bernie’s Book Bank has successfully distributed more than 1 MILLION quality children’s books throughout the Chicagoland area and has made an aggressive goal to distribute 1 MILLION books in 2013 alone.
The most significant factor influencing a child’s educational success is availability to books. Help us bring success to children in the Chicagoland area by donating your new and gently used children’s books. Together we can assist Bernie’s Book Bank in reaching 1 MILLION books in 2013!
